The United Kingdom Government has opened applications for the 2026 Chevening Scholarships, offering fully funded master’s degree places at universities across the country. Applications run from 4 August to 6 October 2026.
The programme, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations, targets emerging leaders and professionals who demonstrate strong leadership potential, influence and networking ability. Successful candidates are expected to show a clear commitment to driving sustainable development and addressing shared global challenges.
Emma Hennessey, Head of the Scholarships Unit at the FCDO, said Chevening seeks exceptional individuals ready to collaborate with the United Kingdom in building a more resilient and sustainable future. British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, Jonny Baxter, described Chevening as more than a scholarship. He specifically encouraged Nigerian applicants who have a clear vision for impact in areas of shared priority between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Since its launch in 1983, Chevening has supported more than 60,000 professionals from over 140 countries and territories. Many alumni now occupy leadership positions in government, business, academia and civil society.
