Trump praises Netanyahu in historic Knesset speech

Former US president hails Israel’s leadership and regional peace progress
Former US President Donald Trump delivered a landmark speech to the Israeli Knesset on Monday, where he praised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his leadership and “great courage,” while also celebrating a new chapter in Middle East diplomacy.
Trump’s remarks came during his official visit to Israel, marking a symbolic moment following a US-brokered ceasefire agreement that ended two years of war with Hamas. The agreement not only halted hostilities but also secured the release of all Israeli hostages, a move widely regarded as a diplomatic breakthrough.
A moment of mutual respect between leaders
In his speech, Trump did not hold back in his admiration for Netanyahu, crediting him as a central figure in the peace process.
“With great courage and patriotism, Prime Minister Netanyahu did so much to make this day possible,” Trump told Israeli lawmakers, prompting a standing ovation from members of the Knesset.
Trump then invited Netanyahu to rise, turning to him with a grin and adding with a touch of humor: “And he’s not easy, I wanna tell you. He’s not the easiest guy to deal with. But that’s what makes him great.”
The light-hearted moment drew laughter and applause from the plenum. Trump concluded with a warm “Thank you very much, Bibi. Great job,” signaling the close friendship between the two leaders.
Recognition of Arab and Muslim nations
In a notable shift toward regional unity, Trump also extended appreciation to Arab and Muslim-majority countries that played a critical role in bringing about the ceasefire and the safe return of Israeli hostages.
He described the international cooperation as an “incredible triumph for Israel” and a clear sign that former adversaries could become partners in peace.
“This will be remembered as the moment that everything began to change,” Trump said. “It will be the golden age of Israel, and the golden age of the Middle East.”
The road to peace: Ceasefire and hostages deal
The speech follows weeks of intense diplomacy led by Trump and US negotiators, culminating in a landmark ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The truce ended a prolonged and bloody conflict that had devastated communities on both sides, causing widespread displacement, economic hardship, and international concern.
The peace deal also included terms for the full release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas — a key sticking point in previous negotiations. Trump praised the coordinated effort between Israel, the US, and regional partners for making it possible.
A new era for the Middle East?
Trump’s Knesset address has sparked widespread debate and cautious optimism across the region. Supporters hail the ceasefire and hostage release as a turning point that could usher in stability and cooperation, particularly between Israel and previously hostile neighbors.
However, critics warn that sustaining peace will require long-term commitment to diplomacy, rebuilding, and addressing the root causes of conflict.
Despite the skepticism, Trump remains confident. “This isn’t just a new chapter for Israel,” he said. “It’s a new book altogether — one of peace, prosperity, and partnership.”
Netanyahu responds to Trump’s tribute
Following the speech, Prime Minister Netanyahu thanked Trump for his unwavering support of Israel, both during his presidency and in the current peace process.
“President Trump has always stood with Israel,” Netanyahu said. “This moment would not have been possible without his leadership and the strength of our shared vision.”
As the Middle East begins to shift toward what many hope will be a lasting peace, Trump’s role in this transformation is being closely watched, both at home and abroad.
