Tower collapse cuts power supply to Kaduna south — TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that electricity supply to parts of Kaduna South has been disrupted following the collapse of a transmission tower in Rigasa Community on September 18.

According to a statement by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, the incident was caused by a combination of heavy rainfall, windstorm, and vandalism. She explained that vandals had carted away vital components of Tower No. 7 along the Kaduna Town Line I and II, weakening its structure before the collapse.

The company noted that the outage has affected some Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) load centers supplying Kaduna South. To cushion the impact, KAEDCO has been directed to link its 33kV Mogadishu feeder with the 33kV Abakwa feeder, enabling partial restoration of supply to the Mogadishu area.

Meanwhile, areas such as Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, Unguwan Muazu, and Kaduna North remain unaffected and continue to enjoy normal electricity supply.

TCN added that its engineers are already on-site, dismantling the fallen tower and preparing for the erection of a replacement. The company apologized to residents affected by the blackout and assured that it is working round the clock to restore power as quickly as possible.
