Tinubu says economy has turned the corner at Olubadan coronation

President Tinubu declares economic turnaround in Ibadan

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s economy has “turned the corner” and is now on the path to sustainable recovery and growth. The President made this optimistic assertion on Friday, September 20, during the historic coronation ceremony of Oba (Sen.) Abdul-Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland in Oyo State.

Speaking at the event, Tinubu noted that the positive results being witnessed today are due to the economic reforms introduced by his administration over the past two years. He also expressed deep appreciation to Nigerians for their patience, endurance, and sacrifices during the nation’s toughest economic challenges.

“Today, I am honoured to bring the cheering news that our economy has turned around and there is now light at the end of the tunnel,” Tinubu said.

Reforms beginning to yield results, says President

Since assuming office, President Tinubu’s administration has introduced a range of policy reforms aimed at reviving the Nigerian economy. These include the removal of fuel subsidies, a unified foreign exchange rate, and the tightening of public spending.

While the reforms were initially met with hardship—including rising inflation and public outcry—the President stated that the long-term benefits are now becoming evident. He assured citizens that prosperity is within reach and urged them to remain hopeful.

Tinubu also took the opportunity to commend the newly crowned Olubadan, calling him a symbol of resilience and leadership in Nigeria’s democratic history.

“All the things we started together with great expectations… are coming to pass,” the President remarked.

Olubadan praised for role in Nigerian democracy

The new Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, is a former governor of Oyo State and a respected elder statesman. Tinubu praised him for his contributions to the nation’s political history and his tenacity in overcoming an illegal impeachment during his tenure as governor.

“I pray that you will live long and be celebrated as one of the rare leaders in history to ascend the throne of your forefathers,” Tinubu said.

Governor Seyi Makinde hails resolution of royal disputes

Also speaking at the event, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State presented the newly crowned monarch with the staff of office and an official certificate. He described the coronation as a unifying moment for Ibadan and a resolution to long-standing disputes within the traditional system.

“All challenges associated with the Ibadan traditional institution are now over,” Makinde said, stressing that the new process for succession is now “sacrosanct.”

The Governor also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for taking the time to honor the people of Oyo State and support traditional leadership.

Oba Ladoja reflects on destiny and duty

In his acceptance speech, Oba Ladoja acknowledged the significance of the day and thanked the President and all dignitaries for their presence. He emphasized that his elevation was not by power or wealth but by destiny and divine grace.

“It is not by power, influence, connection, or money that we are here today,” he said. “I appreciate God for taking me to the finishing line from the starting point.”

Oba Ladoja pledged to lead with integrity and fulfill the expectations of the Olubadan-in-Council and the people of Ibadanland.
