Tinubu rewards D’Tigress with $100,000, OON

President Bola Tinubu has rewarded each player of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with $100,000 and a new apartment following their recent triumph at the 2024 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
In addition to the monetary and housing gifts, President Tinubu also conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on every member of the team.
Coaches of the team were also recognised, each receiving $50,000.

D’Tigress second sports team getting recognized by President Tinubu
The announcement comes just days after the Super Falcons received similar rewards from the presidency for their success at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco — a gesture that stirred public debate over equity and recognition in sports.
The president’s gesture toward D’Tigress is seen as part of broader efforts to promote women’s sports and honour national achievements on the global stage.
