Telecom Namibia partners debt collection agencies to handle overdue accounts

Telecom Namibia Limited, a government-owned and run telecom company in Namibia, has disclosed its partnership with debt collection agencies to attempt to address overdue accounts.

The three debt collection firms that will undertake the recovery of all the monies owed to the national telecom company are RedForce Debt Management CC, Muadifam Enterprise, and Revenue Solutions Namibia (Pty) Limited.

Per the statement addressing clients and stakeholders, Telecom Namibia noted these outstanding debts would cover only arrears accounts for Fixed and TN Mobile services.

The Southern African nation’s Telecom company advised affected clients, whose accounts have already been transferred, “to make payment arrangements directly with” the debt recovery agencies.

The new collaboration between Telecom Namibia and debt collection agencies will help the company and its defaulting customers facilitate a smooth debt recovery process while sustaining the continued financial health of the national telecom provider.

The telecom company explained that it has entered into formal debt collection agreements with RedForce, Muadifam, and Revenue Solutions.

Under the agreements, the agencies are empowered by Telecom Namibia to recover all outstanding debts owed to it.

Thus, any attempt by owing customers to interact directly with the telecom service provider after the issued notice shall be redirected.

Also, Telecom Namibia stated the affected account will face service temporary or permanent disruptions during the debt recovery period.

“Customers are further advised that services for all handed over accounts shall be suspended or/and permanently disconnected during the time that the account is handed over for debt collection,” a part of the statement read.

Additionally, the telecom provider warned that “continued non-payment of accounts” by debtors could result in a default listing with Information Trust Corporation (ITC) Namibia.

For any additional enquiries and clarifications clients may have, Telecom Namibia offered its Credit Management Department’s contact information.

It’s typical for telecom companies to face difficulties in collecting payments from customers, which balloon into significant amounts of unpaid bills. To surmount this setback, telecom providers like Telecom Namibia hire debt collection agencies which specialize in recovering unpaid debts and can assist telecom companies in retrieving outstanding payments, among other things.

While this arrangement is expected to go a long way in addressing the outstanding debts, it remains to be seen how it’ll pan out in practice.
