Toyin Lawani reveals spine degeneration and enduring back pain from epidural side effects

On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, renowned fashion and beauty entrepreneur Toyin Lawani took to social media to share a personal and heart-wrenching revelation about her health. The mother of three disclosed that she has been grappling with severe back pain and a degenerating spine, which she attributes to the side effects of an epidural injection she received during the births of her last two children.

In a candid video, Lawani opened up about the struggles she has faced since undergoing the procedure, commonly used by pregnant women to alleviate pain during labor. She accused medical professionals of failing to fully inform patients about the potential long-term consequences of the epidural.

“When you hear ‘epidural,’ run,” she advised her followers. “Doctors tell you about the side effects, but they don’t tell you about the long-term effects on your body. I have about three friends going through the same issues that I am having.”

Lawani, who is 42 years old, expressed disbelief over the toll the procedure has taken on her body. She shared that she now suffers from a degenerating spine and even has implants in her back.

“I go paralyzed. I can’t stand for a long time. I can’t even breathe properly sometimes because it affected so many things in my body when I had the surgery,” she explained.

She reflected on her past experiences with childbirth, stating, “I had my first as natural birth. The last two were epidurals. The last one I had epidural because I had to undergo a surgery and I had no choice.”

Despite seeking pain relief through the epidural, Lawani emphasized that the pain has persisted. “See, the pain does not stop. My back is killing me, and my spine is degenerating.”

Lawani’s brave admission sheds light on the lesser-discussed risks associated with epidurals and the importance of fully understanding the potential long-term effects of medical procedures. Her emotional appeal serves as a warning to others considering similar treatments.
