Rivers APC chieftain accuses Wike camp of plotting to stop Fubara’s return

Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has raised an alarm over alleged plans to stop suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara from returning to office.

Eze claims that a coordinated effort is underway to spread falsehoods aimed at discrediting Fubara and preventing his return to the Brick House, the Governor’s official residence.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Eze warned that allowing such a scheme to succeed would be a “shame to us all.” He condemned what he described as an attempt by allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to craft a damaging narrative against the suspended Governor.

Eze referred to a recent press conference held by George Nwaeke, the former Head of Service of Rivers State. Nwaeke, according to Eze, was being pressured into making damaging statements about Governor Fubara. During the press briefing, Nwaeke claimed that the Governor had orchestrated the fire that destroyed the House of Assembly Complex with the help of his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, and former Obio/Akpor Council Chairman, Chijioke Ihunwo. Nwaeke also criticized the Governor, attributing the ongoing political crisis to his actions and expressing gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for declaring a state of emergency in the state.

However, Nwaeke’s wife later refuted her husband’s claims. She clarified that Nwaeke had only made the statements due to external pressures, and explained that her husband had resigned from his position as Head of Service after refusing to sign a false report implicating Governor Fubara in a $15 billion fraud scandal.

Eze, in his statement, accused Wike of actively working against efforts to reconcile and stabilize Rivers State, despite President Tinubu’s calls for unity. He claimed that Wike’s main goal is to keep Fubara out of office permanently, which Eze said contradicts democratic principles and the desires of the people of Rivers State.

“The Sole Administrator, George Nwaeke, has a new mandate: to fabricate a flood of falsehoods against Governor Fubara, with full media backing, to ensure he never returns to office,” Eze said. “This will be a shame to us all if we remain silent and allow this to happen.”

Eze also commended Nwaeke’s wife for speaking out in defense of her husband’s integrity, emphasizing her efforts to protect her family’s name.

He concluded by urging President Tinubu to stay true to the path of truth, cautioning him against believing the false narratives being promoted by those with personal vendettas against the Governor and the state.
