‘Super sub’ Trossard rescues Arsenal from home defeat

Arsenal fought back from 2-1 down in its home stadium to draw 2-2 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter final draw with Bayern Munich.

Arsenal had its key players starting, with Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, WIlliam Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Gabriel Martinelli all in the starting eleven.

Bayern Munich also had the usual familiar faces with Harry Kane, Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry and Manuel Neuer all starting.

The game was played at the Emirates so it was no surprise that Arsenal opened the scoring, through a well-struck shot by Saka. Gnabry equalized in the 18th minute though, through an error between centerback Magalhaes and his goalkeeper David Raya.

Bayern then took the lead through a penalty converted by Kane from a Saliba foul, but Kane and Bayern would have to settle for a draw as super substitute Leandro Trossard came on to score the equalizer in the 76th minute.

Trossard has now scored the most goals as a substitute in all of Europe’s top five leagues.

This draw gives a slight advantage to Bayern, as the second leg would be played at the Allianz Arena, which is Bayern’s home stadium.
