Spain, Brazil share spoils in thriller
Spain and Brazil were forced to share the spoils in a 3-3 thriller that had everything from multiple penalties to dramatic extra-time equalizers.
The match was played at Real Madrid’s home stadium, the Santiago Bernabeu, yesterday, March 26.
Spain’s starting lineup was super packed, with Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, Manchester City’s Rodri, Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon, and FC Barcelona teenage sensation Lamine Yamal all starting.
Likewise, Brazil started Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes, FC Porto’s Wendell, and Barcelona’s Raphinha.
Spain looked to be running away with it when Rodri opened the scoring with a penalty in the 12th minute and Dani Olmo doubled the lead in the 36th minute.
However, Brazil woke up in the 40th minute with a goal from Rodrygo. Substitute Endrick equalized the game for the first time in the 50th minute with a goal.
Rodri restored Spain’s lead again in the 87th minute with another penalty goal, but Brazil refused to be beaten as West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta slotted home a penalty in the 96th minute to tie the game up at 3-3.
The three penalties of the game showed just how exhilarating it was to watch.
This draw means Spain has failed to win a game in this international break, as they lost their first friendly to Colombia on March 22.
Brazil, on the other hand, will leave this break with a win and a draw, beating England in their first friendly.
