Shettima departs for Ethiopia on state visit, to attend Green Legacy Programme launch

Vice President Kashim Shettima, on Thursday, June 26, departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, following an official invitation from the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Dr. Abiy Ahmed.
According to a statement from the spokesperson of the vice president, Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima will participate in the official launch of Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Programme, a flagship environmental initiative.
The programme is aimed at combating deforestation, enhancing biodiversity, and mitigating the adverse effects of climate change. It targets the planting of 20 billion tree seedlings over a four-year period.
Nkwocha added that, in line with efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agriculture and industrial development, Vice President Shettima will also embark on a strategic tour of key industrial zones and integrated agricultural facilities in various regions of Ethiopia.
These visits will include the Adama Industrial Zone, Mojo Poultry Farm, Shera Dibandiba Mojo Family Integrated Farm, Lume Avocado Nursery Site, and the Bishoftu Pea Youth Farm.
In addition, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is scheduled to host Vice President Shettima and his delegation at a state dinner at the National Palace—an event expected to further reinforce the longstanding diplomatic and cooperative ties between Nigeria and Ethiopia.
Nkwocha noted that the two countries share a strong history of bilateral engagement, with significant cooperation in military support, regional peacekeeping, and economic partnership.
“This visit aims to deepen those relations while exploring new opportunities in climate action, food security, and sustainable industrialisation,” he said.
