Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has claimed that false allegations spread by former members of his team led to the breakdown of his relationship with Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy.
Speaking during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Shatta Wale said the misunderstanding began after Burna Boy visited Ghana, where he claimed he welcomed the Nigerian singer, provided accommodation and arranged vehicles to ensure he had a comfortable stay.
According to the Ghanaian musician, their relationship deteriorated after he parted ways with some members of his former management team, whom he accused of deliberately spreading false stories to influential people around him.
Shatta Wale alleged that the former associates falsely informed Burna Boy that he had an affair with the singer’s girlfriend during the visit to Ghana.
“They told Burna Boy that I was sleeping with the girl he brought to Ghana. He just believed it,” Shatta Wale claimed during the interview.
The dancehall star expressed disappointment that Burna Boy allegedly accepted the claims without giving him an opportunity to explain his side of the story.
He further disclosed that after Burna Boy’s international career gained momentum, he made several unsuccessful attempts to reconnect with him. According to Shatta Wale, his phone calls and messages were ignored despite their previous friendship.
The singer added that he also reached out to Burna Boy’s mother and manager, Bose Ogulu, in an effort to resolve the misunderstanding. However, he claimed he only received explanations about why the Nigerian star could not speak with him.
Despite the strained relationship, Shatta Wale said he remains proud of Burna Boy’s achievements and global success.
He noted, however, that he regrets the friendship ended over allegations he insists were completely false, maintaining that the accusations originated from disgruntled former members of his own team who sought to damage his personal and professional relationships.
