Service Chiefs reshuffle necessary to strengthen national security – APC Chieftain
A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta, Chief Victor Ogba has said that President Bola Tinubu’s reshuffling of Service Chiefs is necessary to strengthen national security architecture.
Mr Ogba said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Saturday while reacting to the reshuffling of service chiefs by President Tinubu.
President Tinubu had on Friday appointed new service chiefs to take charge of the country’s security leadership.
Gen. Olufemi Oluyede was named Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa, who was appointed just over two years ago after Tinubu came into office.
Maj-Gen W. Shaibu was appointed Chief of Army Staff, while AVM S.K. Aneke and Rear Admiral I. Abbas were named Chiefs of Air and Naval Staff, respectively.
Maj-Gen E.A.P. Undiendeye retained his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
The APC Chieftain who described President Tinubu as visionary leader, reiterated that the reshuffling was part of the efforts to strengthen national security.
“Insecurity is getting worse day by day in the country and President Tinubu can no longer entertain excuses from these service chiefs.
“There is security challenges across Nigeria, including insurgencies in the north-East, armed banditry in the North-West, unrest in the South-East,” he said.
According to him, there are also threats of Petroleum pipeline vandalism in the South-South area.
Mr Ogba urged Nigerians to see the reshuffling as a welcomed development tailored towards addressing the country’s security challenges.
He vehemently condemned the gradual threat of Nigeria’s sovereignty by non-state actors, expressing confidence in the capability of President Tinubu to tackle challenges of insecurity.
Mr Ogba also commended President Tinubu for his uncommon financial reforms that led to Nigeria’s exit from FATF’s grey list.
The Financial Action Task Force, FATF, recently exited Nigeria from its grey list.
FATF is an intergovernmental organisation founded in 1989 on the initiative of the G7 to develop policies to combat money laundering and to maintain certain interests.
The APC chieftain who ascribed the exit to President Tinubu’s political will to combat financial malfeasance, said Tinubu has put Nigeria on global map.
