Senator Natasha vows to prove sexual harassment allegations against Akpabio

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has vowed to prove her sexual harassment claims against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, following a ₦200 billion defamation lawsuit filed against her by Akpabio.

The lawsuit, filed on Friday at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, accuses Akpoti-Uduaghan of making false allegations that Akpabio sexually harassed her, causing public ridicule and damaging his reputation. The Senate President is demanding extensive damages, retractions, and nationwide broadcast apologies.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, in a statement confirming receipt of the suit, said it provides the opportunity she was previously denied by the Senate Ethics and Privileges Committee to have her claims heard by a competent court. She insisted she will prove that she was sexually harassed and that her refusal to comply with the alleged advances triggered sustained political attacks.

“See you in court, Godswill Akpabio,” the Kogi Central Senator declared.

Documents from the court show that Akpabio’s suit includes a detailed statement of claim and a list of witnesses. The suit contends that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s interviews on television, radio, and online portrayed him as a predator exploiting his position for personal gratification. The Senate President is seeking a court order to remove all online materials containing the allegations and to mandate apologies broadcast across major media outlets for several consecutive days.

A court order issued on 6 November 2025 allowed Akpabio to serve court processes on Akpoti-Uduaghan through the Clerk of the National Assembly after attempts at direct service failed. Legal experts say the case is poised to be one of the most closely watched political legal battles in Nigeria.
