Senator Ibrahim Lamido defects to ADC over insecurity

Senator Ibrahim Lamido, representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The lawmaker cited the worsening state of insecurity in his constituency as the primary driver for his exit from the ruling party.

Speaking in Sokoto on Thursday, Lamido stated that his constituents are tired of living in constant fear of bandits. He noted that the move was necessary to align with the concerns of those who face daily threats of kidnapping and displacement.

APC government fails to secure Sokoto East

The Senator criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) administrations at both the state and federal levels for their handling of the crisis. He argued that the current security efforts have not yielded the desired results for the people of his district.

Lamido specifically disagreed with Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s claims that security is improving in the state. He maintained that the reality on the ground in Sokoto East remains dire, with economic activities completely paralyzed by banditry.

Lawmaker calls for humanitarian and military aid

Despite the ongoing legal disputes within the ADC, Lamido remains committed to using the new platform to advocate for his people. He called for an immediate increase in the deployment of security personnel and better logistics to tackle the insurgents.

The lawmaker also stressed that the government must provide urgent humanitarian support for thousands of displaced persons. He insisted that addressing underlying issues like poverty and unemployment is the only way to achieve long-term peace in the region.
