Port Harcourt refinery operating at 70% capacity, Onanuga reveals

On Thursday, December 5, Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, announced that the Port Harcourt refinery is currently operating at 70% of its installed capacity, with plans to increase production soon.

Onanuga shared this update after joining a fact-finding team on a visit to the refinery, which processes 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day. He emphasized that the refinery regularly receives crude oil, contrary to earlier claims that it lacked the necessary product to operate.

“Our team, led by the refinery’s Managing Director Ibrahim Onoja, toured the entire complex, from the control room to the loading bay,” Onanuga explained. “We asked detailed questions and received satisfactory answers, which put to rest any doubts and misconceptions about the refinery’s operation.”

He also praised the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) for revitalizing what he described as a “dead asset,” which was once on the verge of becoming a museum piece.

The refinery, which has a total capacity of 250,000 barrels per day, began its operations in November, processing at 60% capacity.
