Plateau Governor Mutfwang vows justice after deadly attack

The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has visited the Angwan Rukuba community following a devastating attack that claimed several lives. During his visit, he expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the entire community. He stated firmly that his administration would not rest until the perpetrators of this heinous crime face the full wrath of the law.

The Governor toured the affected areas, witnessing the extent of the destruction and the displacement of innocent citizens. He assured the residents that the state government is working closely with federal security agencies to restore peace and order. This attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents that have plagued the North-Central region in recent months.

Strengthening security measures in Plateau State

In response to the tragedy, the Governor announced the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to the Angwan Rukuba area. He noted that the security of lives and property remains the top priority of his government. The state is also looking into a community-based policing model to complement the efforts of the Nigerian Police and the military.

The Governor urged the residents not to take the law into their own hands but to provide actionable intelligence to the authorities. He believes that a stronger collaboration between the government and the grassroots is necessary to defeat the elements of terror. The state has also set up an emergency relief fund to assist the survivors with medical bills and temporary shelter.

Addressing the root causes of regional violence

The persistent attacks in Plateau State are often linked to long-standing land disputes and ethnic tensions. The Governor emphasized the need for a holistic approach to peacebuilding that goes beyond military intervention. He called for a sincere dialogue among the different ethnic and religious groups in the state to foster mutual understanding.

He warned that those who incite violence for political or personal gain will be identified and prosecuted. The administration is working on a new legislative framework to tackle the issue of illegal arms possession within the state. For the Governor, Plateau must return to its status as the “Home of Peace and Tourism” in Nigeria.

International and domestic outcry over the killings

The international community and various human rights organizations have condemned the Angwan Rukuba attack in strong terms. They have called on the federal government to do more to protect vulnerable communities in the Middle Belt. Domestically, the incident has reignited the debate on the effectiveness of the current security architecture in the country.

Many Nigerians are demanding a more proactive approach to intelligence gathering to prevent such massacres before they occur. The Governor has promised to keep the public updated on the progress of the investigation into the attack. As the community begins the painful process of burying their dead, the cry for justice remains louder than ever.
