Peter Obi suspends public engagements over health concerns

The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has suspended all public engagements for the weekend on the advice of his personal physician.

Obi announced the decision on Saturday via his verified X handle, explaining that he had taken ill after attending a tourism event in Enugu. He disclosed that he was placed on medication and advised to rest for one or two days.

“Earlier in Enugu, I was not feeling well. I visited the hospital where the doctor gave me some medication and advised me to take a day or two days rest. In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend,” Obi stated.

The former Anambra State Governor apologised for any inconvenience his absence might cause, appealing for public understanding.

Before the health setback, Obi had visited Good Hope Specialist Hospital, Isulo, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, where he donated ₦10 million to support the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria in acquiring and revitalising the facility.

He praised the Diocese’s plans to transform the hospital into a comprehensive health complex with a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology, describing healthcare as “one of the most meaningful investments” for Nigeria’s future.

Obi also made a brief stop in Owerri for a dinner in honour of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, before announcing his withdrawal from engagements to prioritise his health.
