Peter Obi donates N50m to Shanahan University

Former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has made a generous donation of N50 million to the newly established Shanahan University in Onitsha.

At the university’s official opening ceremony, Obi highlighted the importance of knowledge over oil, stating that knowledge is the currency of the future.

He praised the founder, His Grace, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, Archbishop of Onitsha, for his vision and emphasized that education is crucial for humanity’s progress.

“Our focus as a society should be on preparing for tomorrow,” Obi remarked, commending the church for its longstanding commitment to establishing high-quality educational institutions worldwide. He urged the public to support the church’s educational initiatives.

Archbishop Valerian Okeke expressed his gratitude to Obi, recalling his significant support for missionary-owned institutions during his tenure as governor. He also announced that the university will provide free internet access for all students until January 2025.

The Vice Chancellor of Shanahan University, Professor Obi Oguejiofor, shared the institution’s ambition to become one of Nigeria’s leading universities. He noted that all of the over 200 pioneer students are currently benefiting from tuition-free education for this academic session.
