PDP warns members over Tinubu endorsements, threatens sanctions

The Peoples Democratic Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has issued a stern warning to members openly endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 elections, calling the act a violation of Section 10(6) of the PDP Constitution.

The section forbids members from aligning with other parties or groups in ways that undermine the PDP. Offenders have been told to withdraw their comments or face serious disciplinary action.

Big names under the spotlight
The warning follows a wave of high-profile PDP figures publicly backing Tinubu:

  • Nyesom Wike, Minister of the FCT, who in June described himself as an “asset” to Tinubu’s campaign while remaining a PDP member.

  • Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Osun PDP caucus, who last month praised Tinubu as a “proud son of Osun.”

  • Ladi Adebutu and the Ogun State PDP, who formally endorsed the president’s re-election.

  • Ayodele Fayose, former Ekiti State governor, who attended an APC rally in support of Tinubu.

Fear of division ahead of convention
The NWC says these endorsements have caused division, disaffection, and a loss of members, warning that such instability could harm the party’s electoral chances.

Citing Section 59(1) of its constitution, the committee issued formal reprimands and demanded public retractions from those involved.

Call for loyalty before Ibadan convention
With the PDP National Convention set for 15–16 November 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo State, the NWC urged members to remain united.

“The NWC charges all members to remain loyal, focused, and work assiduously towards the successful conduct of the PDP National Convention,” the statement read.
