PDP aspirant says 2027 leadership will be determined by the people, not incumbency

A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has said that Nigeria’s leadership in the 2027 general elections will be decided by the will of the people and not by the advantage of incumbency.

Ajadi made the remark while reacting to reports suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu allegedly claimed that no opposition could unseat him in the 2027 presidential election.

According to the PDP chieftain, such statements, if true, are capable of undermining public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process and creating the impression that election outcomes are already predetermined.

He stressed that democracy thrives on free choice, accountability and credible elections, noting that leadership should always emerge from the collective decision of the electorate.

Ajadi warned that dismissing the role of opposition parties or the electorate could weaken democratic institutions and erode trust in the electoral system, urging political leaders to respect the principles of fair competition and popular sovereignty ahead of the 2027 polls.
