Owo council chairman apologizes to monarch over viral audio

The Chairman of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Hon. Tope Omolayo, has apologized to the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, over his viral audio recording on the crisis in the council area.
Omolayo, in a letter dated October 20, 2025, expressed deep regret for his unruly remarks against the monarch, describing them as disrespectful and unbecoming.
The council boss, who was suspended last week by councillors over alleged gross misconduct, admitted full responsibility for his comments, saying they did not reflect the values of Owo culture or the respect he holds for the traditional institution.
“I am profoundly sorry for any hurt, embarrassment, or disappointment my utterances may have caused you, the royal household, and the good people of Owo Kingdom,” he wrote.
Omolayo pleaded for the monarch’s forgiveness, assuring that the incident had served as a lesson in humility and respect. He also reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging continued support for the governor’s leadership and development vision.
He further appealed to sons and daughters of Owo, both at home and abroad, to unite for the peace and progress of the local government, stressing that development could not thrive amid division.
“To our esteemed councillors, I express my sincere gratitude for your steadfastness and seek your continued cooperation,” he added, calling on all aggrieved persons to forgive and work together for the growth of the community.
