Osun state leads nationwide as INEC registers millions

Independent national electoral commission records over 2.68 million new voters

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released updated statistics from the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The figures confirm that more than 2.68 million Nigerians have successfully completed their enrollment nationwide. This massive turnout underscores the continuous political awareness and engagement among eligible citizens across the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The commission disclosed the new statistics on its official social media channel, detailing the breakdown of registration methods used. The data provides a comprehensive picture of the participation levels in the crucial electoral preparation process. The high number of registrations highlights the dedication of the INEC staff and the willingness of Nigerians to exercise their civic duty.

Digital registration drives participation across the federation

The statistics reveal that a substantial number of applicants leveraged the available digital platform for registration. Specifically, 1,576,137 applicants successfully completed their pre-registration using the online portal. This online method proved popular for its convenience and accessibility, allowing citizens to begin the process remotely.

However, the physical component of the exercise remained essential for finalizing the enrollment process. An additional 1,109,588 registrants completed their full enrollment through physical biometric capture at designated INEC centers across all states. This dual-method approach ensures maximum inclusivity for all eligible voters, regardless of digital access.

Osun state dominates voter tally followed by Kano and Sokoto

According to the updated figures, Osun State has emerged as the clear leader in the new voter registration tally. The state recorded a significant total of 208,357 newly registered voters, showcasing remarkable political mobilization. This figure places Osun far ahead of other states in the current phase of the CVR exercise.

Kano State followed closely behind, recording an impressive 159,669 registrations in the period under review. Sokoto State also demonstrated robust participation with 152,650 completed registrations. The strong performance of these states suggests a high level of preparedness for upcoming electoral cycles.

Top performing states demonstrate regional engagement

Several other states also posted remarkably strong registration figures, contributing substantially to the national total. Imo State recorded 145,561 new voters, reflecting significant grassroots political activity. Borno State added 123,835 registrants, an important marker of civic participation despite persistent security challenges in the region.

The economic hub of Lagos State recorded 123,484 completed registrations, showcasing steady engagement in the urban center. Jigawa State also maintained an impressive performance with 116,246 new voters added to the national database. These figures collectively highlight the vibrant political landscape across various zones in the country.

Federal capital territory maintains impressive turnout

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), representing the nation’s capital, maintained a strong and consistent turnout throughout the registration period. The FCT recorded 106,855 completed registrations, underscoring the strong democratic culture within the capital region. This participation reflects the diverse national representation within the capital.

Following the FCT, Kogi State recorded 103,750 new registrations, emphasizing the commitment of its residents to the democratic process. Zamfara State completed the list of states surpassing the one hundred thousand mark, with a commendable 101,511 newly registered voters. Katsina State was just shy of this benchmark, recording 98,968 completed registrations.

Electoral body calls for last-minute participation ahead of deadline

The INEC also provided vital information regarding the ongoing schedule for the voter registration exercise. The commission reminded all eligible citizens that the first quarter of the nationwide CVR exercise was scheduled to conclude on December 10, 2025. This deadline emphasizes the need for urgent action by those who have not yet registered.

The electoral body is urging all eligible Nigerians who have not yet completed their registration to utilize the remaining hours to do so. Securing a voter’s card is the only legitimate pathway to participating in the critical decisions facing the nation. The ongoing exercise is a foundational mandate that empowers citizens to choose their future leaders.

Low registration states urged to mobilize for future phases

While many states posted commendable registration figures, some states recorded notably lower numbers in the current period. Enugu State recorded only 19,275 new registrants, raising concerns about local mobilization efforts. Ondo State and Cross River State also showed low figures, recording 17,542 and 16,822 respectively.

Abia State rounded off the list of low-performing states with a recorded total of 16,691 new registrants. These states are being encouraged to increase civic awareness and mobilization efforts during subsequent phases of the CVR. Achieving equitable representation across the federation remains a key goal for the national electoral process.

CVR ensures updated register for future elections

The Continuous Voter Registration exercise is paramount to ensuring that the national voters’ register remains accurate, up-to-date, and credible. An accurate register is a non-negotiable prerequisite for conducting free, fair, and credible elections. INEC’s transparent reporting of these figures adds to the overall integrity of the process.

The success of the CVR thus far showcases the resilience of Nigeria’s democracy and the determination of its people to participate fully. The commission will continue to improve processes and address logistical challenges to ensure all eligible citizens are registered. The new additions represent a fresh injection of voices and mandates into the country’s political sphere.
