Osun State governor reaffirms commitment to youth empowerment

Governor Adeleke champions youth-driven economic transformation

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has once again emphasized his administration’s unwavering commitment to empowering young people across the state. Speaking through the Commissioner for Government House Protocol, Mr. Soji Ajeigbe, the Governor shared this message during the graduation ceremony of 50 youths from Ido-Osun who recently completed a two-week intensive training in Adire textile production.

The event, which took place on Monday, showcased the state’s strategic investment in skill development as a means of combating unemployment and fostering entrepreneurship among young citizens.

Adire training as a tool for job creation

The Adire training initiative forms part of the broader strategy by the Adeleke administration to transition youths from being job seekers to becoming successful job creators. Governor Adeleke described the programme as a key driver of economic self-reliance and creative industry development in the region.

“Let me assure you that our administration is committed to expanding opportunities for our young people,” said Adeleke. “Through skill acquisition programmes, entrepreneurship support, and partnerships with both traditional institutions and private organisations, we are determined to ensure that Osun youths are not just job seekers but job creators.”

He urged the graduating participants to take their training seriously, stating that they now hold the tools to forge successful careers and businesses that will put Osun on the global map for innovation and craftsmanship.

Royal backing and local leadership

The initiative was made possible through the sponsorship of the traditional ruler of Ido-Osun, the Oludo, Oba Olayinka Oyetunde. In his remarks, the monarch encouraged the beneficiaries to leverage the skills they had acquired to become economically independent and socially responsible.

“My message to the participants is to see this as a great opportunity,” said the Oludo. “This training is a foundation for self-dependence. Among the participants are students from secondary schools, tertiary institutions, and even graduates. It is an opportunity to carve out a sustainable means of livelihood.”

Oba Oyetunde also announced plans for a second batch of the training programme, highlighting the long-term vision of expanding the reach of the initiative and strengthening its impact in the community.

Beneficiaries express gratitude and optimism

One of the programme’s beneficiaries, Miss Tawio Adio, expressed her appreciation for the opportunity, saying the skills she gained would help her achieve her dream of financial independence.

“I want to thank the Oludo for this initiative. It has really opened my eyes to the possibilities that lie in creative entrepreneurship. I am now more confident in my ability to build a business that can support me and contribute to the economy,” she said.

A step toward sustainable economic growth

This skill acquisition initiative is one of several programmes rolled out by the Osun State government under Governor Adeleke’s leadership to address youth unemployment and promote local industries. By investing in training and capacity building, the state is laying the foundation for sustainable economic growth driven by innovation, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurship.

As more traditional rulers and private organisations begin to partner with the government in similar ventures, Osun State is positioning itself as a hub for youth innovation and self-reliant development.
