Osun PDP questions INEC over low voter registration figures

Huge gap between online sign-ups and completed registrations
The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is raising red flags over the figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
According to the PDP, while over 470,000 Osun residents began the registration process online in just two weeks, fewer than 600 were listed as having completed their in-person registration—a key requirement to be eligible to vote.
PDP: The numbers don’t add up
In a statement released Thursday and signed by the party’s Director of Media, Hezekiah Oladele Bamiji, the PDP called the numbers “worrisome” and “inconceivable.”
“Osun records 1,500 to 2,000 in-person registrations daily. It’s impossible that only 500 would be completed,” the statement said.
The party alleges that more than 25,000 voters have physically completed registration at INEC centers across Osun, yet INEC’s national report only shows a tiny fraction of that.
Concerns ahead of 2026 and 2027 elections
The PDP says the discrepancies undermine trust in INEC’s ability to manage upcoming elections—including the 2026 governorship race in Osun and the 2027 general elections.
“Such contradictions insult the intelligence of the electorate and threaten the integrity of the entire process,” the party warned.
PDP demands immediate action from INEC
The party is calling on INEC to:
-
Correct the alleged false data and publish the accurate registration numbers
-
Release daily updates on completed registrations and voter transfers
-
Allow independent monitoring of the entire CVR process
They also demanded transparency on voter card transfers into Osun, raising concerns about potential voter manipulation.
“Without full disclosure, the process remains open to abuse,” the PDP said.
Final word: Transparency or trouble
The PDP made it clear that they view transparent voter registration as the foundation of credible elections, and they won’t tolerate any attempt to disenfranchise Osun voters.
