Osun APC accuses Adeleke of abandoning duty, governor confirms U.S. vacation for Davido’s wedding
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of abandoning his official duties and leaving the state without informing the public of his whereabouts for the past two weeks.
In a statement on Tuesday by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC criticised what it described as Governor Adeleke’s “habitual disregard” for accountability and transparency.
“It is absolutely wrong for Governor Adeleke to take the people of the state for granted by just sneaking out of the Government House for an undisclosed destination,” the statement read.
The APC questioned whether the governor properly handed over to his deputy before departing, warning against leaving the reins of government in the hands of family members. The party also expressed concern over what it called the “proxy governance” allegedly being run by the Adeleke family.
However, in a swift response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed that the governor is currently on a short vacation in the United States and is using the opportunity to attend the wedding of his nephew, Afrobeats star David Adeleke, a.k.a. Davido.
Rasheed clarified that this is Governor Adeleke’s first official vacation since assuming office in November 2022 and reassured the public that governance is not on hold.
“The deputy governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, is actively supervising state affairs and is in constant communication with his boss,” the statement said.
He also extended an olive branch to the opposition:
“His Excellency is inviting members of the opposition party to attend the event and share in the joy of the occasion with the Adeleke family. Those unable to attend may join virtually.”
The spokesperson further defended the governor’s use of a private family jet, saying, “For this current trip, the Governor has again chosen to make it a short one to continually attend to crucial state functions.”
The exchange adds another layer to the intensifying political rivalry in Osun, with the APC accusing Adeleke of governance lapses, while the governor’s camp maintains that state operations remain uninterrupted during his absence.
