Former governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has dismissed rumours making the rounds that he had dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
In a statement issued on his X handle on Monday, Mr Fayemi reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC.
While advocating for inclusion in the ruling party, Mr Fayemi said he believed it was still not too late for “our party to change course and move towards greater inclusion and internal democracy”.
Mr Fayemi’s denial follows speculations that he would join the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, to the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
“My attention has been drawn to a story circulating on several online platforms regarding my defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he said.
“As I have had cause to state in the past, I am a card-carrying foundation member of the APC and this position has not changed.
“While I have been at the vanguard of demand for greater internal democracy and inclusion in the ruling party, I believe it is still not late for our party to change course and move towards greater inclusion and internal democracy.”
