Amotekun suspends and declares three officers wanted for alleged misconduct in Ondo State

Security agency vows not to tolerate indiscipline within its ranks

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has suspended three of its officers and declared them wanted for alleged gross misconduct and insubordination. The state security outfit, which has been instrumental in combating crime across the state, said the affected officers were acting outside the laws and values guiding the corps.

The Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, made the announcement in Akure while parading several suspected criminals, including kidnappers and other offenders recently apprehended by the agency. He explained that the suspension and declaration of the three officers followed intelligence reports linking them to activities capable of undermining the corps.

Officers accused of conspiracy and misconduct

Chief Adeleye revealed that investigations showed the suspended officers were allegedly sponsored by external interests to discredit and distract the Amotekun Corps from its primary duty of safeguarding lives and property in Ondo State.

“Every organization has its own rules, and the Ondo State Security Network Agency is not an exception,” Adeleye said. “Intelligence showed that the three (declared wanted) have been sponsored not only to undermine and disparage the management of the Corps but to totally distract the attention of the Corps from its core mandate of providing security to lives and properties.”

He further emphasized that the agency would not allow itself to be dragged into unnecessary controversies or internal distractions, adding that the corps would continue to operate within the framework of discipline and professionalism.

Corps management maintains unity and focus

The Amotekun commander stressed that despite the actions of the suspended officers, the corps remains solid and united under its leadership. “We refused to be dragged into the controversies surrounding each and every one of them,” he said. “The fact remains that they are acting in isolation, and the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, remains solid, as you can see. The entire management staff is ensuring that we are not distracted.”

Chief Adeleye added that the suspended officers would be given a fair opportunity to defend themselves under the law. “The three of them have been suspended from the Corps, and we are looking for them to come and answer as a way of giving them free access to criminal justice,” he stated. “If they are innocent, everybody will see. But the Corps as an entity will not be dragged into social media controversy with such people, especially now that we are sure and we have proof to show that they are being sponsored.”

Amotekun arrests suspected spy allegedly hired by herdsmen

In a related development, the Amotekun Corps also announced the arrest of a 29-year-old suspected hired spy allegedly recruited by Fulani herdsmen. The suspect was reportedly assigned to monitor the movements of farmers and residents in some parts of the state to facilitate criminal activities.

Chief Adeleye explained that the arrest was made following credible intelligence gathered by operatives of the corps. “We arrested a young man who confessed to being hired by herdsmen to act as a spy, monitoring farmers and local communities. His activities were intended to assist criminal groups to plan attacks or evade security operations,” he said.

He assured residents of Ondo State that the Amotekun Corps remains committed to maintaining peace and security across all communities. The commander urged citizens to continue to provide useful information that would aid security operations and help reduce crime in the state.

Commitment to discipline and accountability

Chief Adeleye reiterated that the Amotekun Corps, under the leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, would continue to uphold discipline, accountability, and professionalism in the discharge of its duties. He noted that the recent disciplinary action demonstrates the agency’s zero tolerance for misconduct and corruption within its ranks.

“We will not compromise on discipline or integrity,” he said. “Anyone found engaging in acts that tarnish the image of the corps will face the consequences.”

The Ondo Amotekun Corps has gained national recognition for its efforts in combating kidnapping, armed robbery, and herdsmen-related attacks in the state. As the corps continues to evolve, its leadership maintains that only a disciplined and united security team can deliver lasting safety to the people of Ondo State.
