Omisore declares bid for Osun 2026 governorship race

Former Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Iyiola Omisore, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election, scheduled for August 8, 2026.
Omisore made the announcement during a press briefing in Osogbo on Wednesday, vowing to deliver mature governance and structural development if elected.
Omisore promises reforms across sectors
Speaking confidently to the press, Omisore emphasized that governance is a serious business, not a platform for mere theatrics or popularity contests.
“I am ready to bring development to education, agriculture, infrastructure, and the overall economy of Osun State,” he said. “APC’s chances in 2026 are 100 percent. If we hold the primaries today, I will win by 90 percent.”
Large turnout signals party support
Hundreds of APC supporters from across all wards of the state turned out at the declaration venue, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and political momentum.
According to Omisore, the show of support demonstrates the readiness of APC members to rally behind a proven leader who can bring the party victory in 2026.
“This crowd shows we are ready to rescue the state and take it back to developmental progress,” he said.
Campaign team emphasizes experience
Ajibola Famurewa, Director-General of the Omisore Campaign, said the former deputy governor stands out among all aspirants due to his governance experience and political maturity.
“Governance is not about experiments. Omisore, as a former deputy governor, is the most experienced aspirant. He knows the terrain and has proven capacity to govern,” Famurewa said.
He also confirmed that the supporters at the event were genuine APC members from all local government areas of Osun State.
Osun APC gearing up for primaries
With the APC primaries slated for December 15, 2025, Omisore is expected to face competition from other aspirants, though none have so far drawn the same level of grassroots engagement.
Political analysts believe that Omisore’s return could realign internal party dynamics, especially given his influence within the party’s national structure.
Omisore’s political journey so far
Iyiola Omisore has a long political history in Osun and Nigerian politics. A former senator and one-time governorship candidate under a different platform, he joined APC and served as its national secretary until 2022. His political comeback signals a renewed ambition to lead Osun State into a new era of infrastructural and policy transformation.
What’s next for Osun politics
With over nine months to the 2026 governorship election, political activity in Osun is heating up. Omisore’s early declaration gives him a head start in mobilizing support, fundraising, and outlining policy proposals.
If successful in the APC primaries, he will face off against candidates from other parties — including the current ruling party in the state — in what is expected to be a high-stakes election.
Final thoughts
Omisore’s entrance into the Osun 2026 race sets the stage for a competitive political season. As the APC looks to reclaim the state, his experience and early momentum may give him the edge needed to emerge both as the party’s flagbearer and, potentially, the next governor.
Whether the promises of structural reform and economic revitalization will resonate with voters remains to be seen — but one thing is clear: Omisore is back in the game, and he’s in it to win.
