Ogun monarch calls for aircraft donation to boost Gateway Airport operations
Eselu of Iselu urges collective effort from Ogun West stakeholders
The Eselu of Iselu, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, has urged the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, to lead a coordinated fundraising initiative among traditional rulers and indigenes of Ogun West. The goal, he said, is to purchase an aircraft to support flight operations at the newly built Gateway International Airport in Iperu-Remo, Ogun State.
The monarch made this appeal on Friday during the installation of Chief Jerry and Mrs. Rosemary Oluranti as the Otunba Bobaseto and Yeye Otunba Bobaseto of Ilaro-Yewa, held at the private palace of the Olu of Ilaro.
Strengthening Ogun West’s role in state development
Speaking at the event, Oba Akinyemi emphasized that the initiative would not only enhance the visibility and functionality of the airport but also symbolize Ogun West’s commitment to the broader development of Ogun State.
He noted that while the airport is a major infrastructural milestone by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration, citizens must play an active role in sustaining its success.
“The Gateway International Airport is a monumental project by the Ogun State government. Since Ogun West is an integral part of the state, it is only fitting that our people also take ownership of it,” he said.
According to him, the people of Ogun West should not be passive observers but active contributors, helping to make the airport a hub for commerce, tourism, and connectivity.
A call for unity and regional pride
Oba Akinyemi further appealed to Oba Olugbenle to mobilize other traditional rulers, business figures, and community leaders across Yewaland to rally behind the vision.
“Let our sons and daughters at home and abroad rally behind this vision to acquire an aircraft that can service the Gateway Airport. This is how great regions show their worth,” he added.
He explained that the fundraising effort would serve as a symbol of unity, pride, and self-determination, reflecting the collective will of the people to drive regional growth.
Citizens must complement government efforts
The monarch stressed that development should not be left solely to the government. He noted that patriotism requires citizens to take initiative in supporting projects that shape their future.
“The government cannot do everything. It is our duty as patriotic indigenes to complement the efforts of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration,” Oba Akinyemi stated.
“If we truly want Yewaland and Ogun State to move forward, we must support the government with ideas, initiatives, and concrete actions.”
He also encouraged wealthy indigenes and private sector players to contribute financially and logistically to the realization of this goal.
Ogun West’s collective vision for the future
Oba Akinyemi described the proposed fundraising as more than a financial campaign. He said it represents a renewed commitment to unity, innovation, and progress for the people of Ogun West.
“We cannot sit back and expect development to come on its own. This is the time for us to rise and prove that Ogun West is ready to take bold steps in shaping the future of our dear state,” he declared.
The monarch concluded by emphasizing that collective responsibility remains the most effective way to achieve balanced growth across the state.
“Yewaland is blessed with intelligent, resourceful, and wealthy sons and daughters. If everyone contributes even a little, we can make this vision a reality,” he said.
