NYSC: Kaduna welcomes 1,979 corps members
On Friday, August 30, Kaduna State welcomed 1,979 new National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members for their one-year mandatory service. This group includes 1,562 from Kaduna State and 417 from the Federal Capital Territory.
At the swearing-in ceremony held at the NYSC temporary orientation camp at Government College, Kaduna, State Coordinator Hassan Mahmud encouraged the corps members to embody the values of discipline, integrity, selflessness, and patriotism throughout their service year.
Mahmud said, “I encourage you to actively participate in all camp activities that are carefully designed to equip you with the necessary skills that will positively impact your lives during the service year. Embrace every challenge and ensure your service year becomes a period of learning, personal growth, and contribution to nation-building.”
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, who was represented by Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, officially opened the orientation camp and assured the corps members of their safety.
Sani urged them to focus on being ambassadors of peace, national unity, and progress during their three-week orientation course. He stressed the importance of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme in helping members gain skills for economic independence.
Sani stated, “This one year of national service is a crucial phase where you are expected to contribute selflessly to the development of our country. I encourage you to take all the orientation course activities seriously, especially the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme, which is designed to equip you with skills and prepare you for economic self-reliance.
“The security and welfare of corps members remain a top priority for my administration. While I look forward to receiving a positive report of your orientation course from the State Coordinator, I wish you a successful orientation exercise.”
