NNPCL boss says his life is under threat over refinery reforms

“They want me out,” says Ojulari

Bayo Ojulari, the Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), says his life — and those of his management team — is under serious threat.

Ojulari made the claim during a meeting with the leadership of PENGASSAN (Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria) on Thursday at the NNPCL headquarters in Abuja.

Why the threats?

Ojulari says his “offense” is pushing through critical reforms in Nigeria’s troubled oil and gas sector, particularly efforts to revive the country’s refineries — a task assigned to him by President Bola Tinubu.

According to him, unnamed “powerful elements” are resisting these changes and are actively trying to remove him from office.

PENGASSAN pays solidarity visit

The delegation from PENGASSAN, led by its President, Comrade Festus Osifo, visited Ojulari in a show of support amid the growing pressure.

While the NNPCL boss didn’t go into full details about the threats, the tone of the meeting made it clear that tensions within the oil sector are running high — especially around long-standing issues of corruption, inefficiency, and vested interests.
