AVM Aneke pledges to enhance Nigeria’s air power and security operations
The newly appointed Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Sunday Aneke, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving Nigeria’s security and enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
Aneke made this known on Thursday in Abuja during the official handover ceremony where he assumed command as the 23rd Chief of the Air Staff, taking over from Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar.
In his inaugural address, AVM Aneke described his appointment as a great honor and a solemn call to national duty. He expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading one of the nation’s most strategic military institutions.
A renewed commitment to national service
Speaking shortly after taking over the leadership of the Air Force, Aneke assured Nigerians that he would “leave no stone unturned” in ensuring that the force delivers on its mandate to protect the country’s territorial integrity. He emphasized that the NAF would continue to play an active role in ongoing military operations aimed at combating terrorism, banditry, and other internal security challenges across the country.
“My appointment as the 23rd Chief of the Air Staff is both an honour and a humbling experience,” he said. “I wish to specially thank the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for this rare privilege to serve Nigeria. I pledge my loyalty and that of all officers, airmen, and airwomen of the Nigerian Air Force to the government and people of Nigeria, as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution.”
Collaboration with security agencies to boost operations
Aneke highlighted the importance of joint operations with other security and intelligence agencies to ensure peace and stability. He noted that modern security challenges require synergy and collaboration among all branches of the armed forces.
“Together, we will leave no stone unturned in discharging our constitutional roles in conjunction with other sister services, security, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies to bring about swift improvement in the security situation of Nigeria,” he stated.
Prioritizing personnel welfare and motivation
The new Air Chief also underscored the importance of personnel welfare, stressing that the well-being of officers and airmen is directly linked to the operational success of the force. According to him, a motivated and well-equipped force is vital for achieving strategic objectives and ensuring national security.
Aneke assured that under his leadership, the Air Force would focus on improving working conditions, training opportunities, and the welfare of service members and their families. He also appealed for continued support from the National Assembly, noting that legislative backing is essential to sustaining military operations and achieving long-term security goals.
Tribute to his predecessor and appreciation to family
In his speech, Aneke commended his predecessor, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, for his service and accomplishments during his tenure. He acknowledged the progress made in counter-terrorism and air operations, promising to build on those successes to further enhance Nigeria’s air capabilities.
The outgoing CAS, Air Marshal Abubakar, in his valedictory remarks, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as both an honor and a privilege. He highlighted that the NAF recorded significant progress in air operations, particularly in the fight against terrorism and internal security threats.
“No matter how advanced our platforms are, it is the human being behind the machine who delivers airpower,” Abubakar said, urging Aneke to continue investing in personnel development and welfare.
