The National Examinations Council (NECO) has dismissed claims that Government Secondary School, Olowa, in Kogi State is a “miracle examination centre,” describing the allegation as inaccurate.
The examination body made the clarification following comments linked to the recent abduction of examination officials and candidates during the ongoing 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination.
In a statement signed by its Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, NECO said the school is a government-owned institution that has existed for more than 40 years and has participated in its Senior School Certificate Examination since 2000.
The council also stated that the school’s principal and the abducted examination supervisor are employees of the Kogi State Government, adding that all 28 candidates registered by the school for the 2026 examination are duly enrolled students rather than external candidates.
To support its position, NECO released the school’s candidate figures from recent years and noted that the Kogi State Government also paid the WASSCE registration fees for students from the same school this year.
The council further disclosed that it had requested additional security for examination centres across Kogi State before the commencement of the examination because of security concerns in some communities.
NECO reiterated its commitment to tackling examination malpractice and urged public officials to verify information before making statements that could mislead the public or damage the reputation of institutions.
