New rules harmonize electronic device use across Nigerian airspace
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has officially directed that all mobile phones must be completely switched off—not just placed in airplane mode—during aircraft take-off and landing.
This update was announced on Tuesday via a post on X by Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection.
Why the new rule?
According to the NCAA, the decision follows an emergency meeting with aviation stakeholders aimed at aligning local practices with global safety standards.
While many airlines previously allowed airplane mode, the NCAA says the new rule is part of a broader effort to harmonize how electronic devices are regulated during flights across Nigeria.
