Viral video sparks investigation
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned Comfort Emmanson, Juliana Edward, and members of the Ibom Air cabin crew for further questioning after a viral video showed Emmanson being dragged off a flight.
The incident happened on August 10 during a Uyo–Lagos flight and quickly sparked debate on social media over how airline staff and passengers are treated during flights.
What NCAA is saying
Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, made the announcement on Tuesday at an aviation stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja.
“I spoke with Ms. Emmanson this morning. We’re also inviting Ibom Air’s cabin crew. They’ll be here tomorrow,” he said.
According to Achimugu, the pilot didn’t alert airport security immediately after the plane landed in Lagos because the issue seemed settled before takeoff in Uyo. However, Emmanson’s delayed exit from the plane — she used the restroom after landing — drew renewed attention.
Investigation ongoing
Achimugu assured attendees that the NCAA is digging into all sides of the story.
“We’re committed to a full and fair investigation,” he said.
Senate weighs in
At the same meeting, Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, who chairs the Senate Committee on Aviation, said incidents like this point to deeper issues — including poor discipline among passengers and unprofessional conduct by some crew members.
He urged the aviation industry to close these gaps and praised the NCAA for staying on top of the situation.
