The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has distributed palliatives to elderly residents in the Oluwo area of Abeokuta and non-teaching staff of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, Ogun State.
These palliatives include food items and other essentials
The distribution, which was put together by David Ebunoluwa, the Director of Special Duties of NAPS, in collaboration with Clever Dee Foundation, was directed at helping the less privileged to ease the suffering brought about by the current financial hardship.
Speaking at the event held on Monday, Ebunoluwa, who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Clever Dee Foundation, expressed concern over the impact of the economic downturn on the polytechnic community.
“The current situation is a testament to the devastating effects of inflation and a struggling economy,” he added.
Ebunoluwa explained that the gesture was part of the organization’s efforts to promote social equity and ease the economic burden of the pandemic on the vulnerable.
He reiterated the commitment of the foundation to supporting vulnerable individuals and families across the country.
He also encouraged other individuals and organizations to join in efforts aimed at promoting social justice and improving the welfare of the less privileged in society.
“We recognise that many families and individuals have been severely affected by the recent economic setback, and we feel their pain.
“As an organization, we are committed to promoting social justice and supporting the less privileged in society. Therefore, we are pleased to extend these welfare palliatives to the staff of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, and aged residents of Abeokuta,” he said.
The welfare palliatives were presented by Taiwo Ogunyinka, the Deputy Rector of Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade, who expressed his gratitude on behalf of the management.
“We are extremely grateful to NAPS for this kind gesture. The economic hardship has affected everyone, and this welfare palliative distribution exercise is a testament to the fact that we must all come together to help alleviate the challenges that many people are facing due to the pandemic,” Ogunyinka said.
