Mbappé addresses reports of rape investigation in Sweden in first interview with French TV station
Kylian Mbappé has expressed disbelief over media reports from Sweden two months ago claiming he was the subject of a rape investigation.
The Real Madrid star addressed the matter publicly for the first time during an interview that aired on Sunday with French TV station Canal Plus.
In October, several Swedish outlets reported that Mbappé was being investigated for rape following a visit to Stockholm during a break from playing for Real Madrid and the French national team. At the time, Mbappé’s legal team dismissed the reports as false.
“I was surprised, and I still am surprised, by the way. These are things that come into your life like that, you can’t see them coming,” Mbappé said to Canal Plus.
“It’s just incomprehension. I don’t think it weighed on me in the sense that I have never considered myself involved.”
He further stated that he would comply if summoned by Swedish authorities but emphasised that he has not been contacted.
“Listen, I haven’t received anything, no summons, nothing,” Mbappé said. “The Swedish government has not said anything, so I’m not concerned [involved].”
When the reports first surfaced in October, Swedish authorities confirmed an ongoing investigation into a suspected rape at a Stockholm hotel but did not identify a suspect.
Last month, a prosecutor told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that the investigation was still active but provided no additional details.
