Manchester United offered Vardy, Calvert-Lewin, and Wilson as free agent options to boost attack

As Manchester United aim to revamp their attack ahead of the new season, manager Ruben Amorim has reportedly been offered three free agent strikers: Jamie Vardy, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Callum Wilson.

According to The Athletic on Tuesday, July 8, the offers come as United struggle to find value in the market after falling short in their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, who is now closing in on a move to Arsenal.

United’s attack was a weak point last season, with the team managing just 44 goals in 38 Premier League matches—one of the lowest tallies among top-half clubs. Despite identifying five forward targets at the start of the summer, progress has been slow.

The Red Devils have made only one attacking addition so far, signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and are now exploring short-term, cost-effective options to add experience and depth.

The three forwards offered:

  • Jamie Vardy (37): Former Leicester City talisman and Premier League winner, now a free agent after leaving the club. Known for his pace, clinical finishing, and big-game mentality.

  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin (27): Recently departed from Everton, the striker has struggled with injuries in recent seasons but remains a strong aerial threat and physical presence when fit.

  • Callum Wilson (32): Left Newcastle United on Monday, Wilson is experienced and has consistently scored in the Premier League when given a run of games.

With United needing immediate reinforcements, especially if other big-money targets fall through, the club may be tempted to take a chance on one of the proven veterans, particularly given the club’s restricted spending under financial sustainability rules.

No final decisions have been made, but the next few weeks could determine whether United opt for a stopgap solution—or continue to chase younger, longer-term attacking options.
