Ladoja denies withdrawing Bola Ige’s assassination case, demands apology from Akande

Former Oyo State Governor, Rasidi Ladoja, has refuted claims that he withdrew the case file of the assassination of Chief Bola Ige, the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, from court.

Ladoja, who served as Oyo State governor from 2003 to 2007, made the statement on Monday at his residence in Ibadan while speaking to DAILY POST and other journalists.

The assassination of Chief Bola Ige, a former governor of the old Oyo State, occurred in December 2001. However, in a recent interview, former Osun State Governor, Chief Bisi Akande, accused Ladoja of withdrawing the case, which was initially filed by the late Alhaji Lamidi Adesina, a former governor of Oyo State. Akande also alleged that Ladoja might be hiding crucial information regarding Ige’s death.

Ladoja, however, denied these allegations, asserting that neither he nor anyone in his government withdrew the case.

“I did not withdraw the case, my government did not withdraw any case,” Ladoja said, pointing out that the case was still being prosecuted at the highest courts, even reaching the Supreme Court.

He went on to challenge Akande to apologize for spreading what he called a “false statement.” Ladoja warned that if Akande failed to retract his comment, he would take legal action.

Ladoja, who also holds the title of Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, expressed his displeasure over the false claims, adding that Akande’s recent book contained numerous inaccuracies about various people, including himself.

“Chief Bola Ige was assassinated on December 23rd, 2001, and I assumed office on May 29, 2003—18 months after his assassination,” Ladoja explained. “I did not withdraw the case. We were all hurt by Ige’s death, and we were all concerned about it. I was very close to Chief Bola Ige while he was alive.”

He concluded by calling for an end to the false narratives surrounding Ige’s death and demanded that Akande retract his statement.
