Labour party alleges APC infiltration, interim leadership’s inaction

The Labour Party’s Interim National Committee, led by Senators Nenadi Usman and Darlington Nwochocha, has accused supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to infiltrate and take over its party structure.
The allegation was contained in a leaked memo by the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Mr Toni Akeni, who expressed frustration over the state of affairs within the party and threatened to resign if the situation persists.
Akeni alleged that some “moles” within the party, allegedly working for the APC, had influenced the interim leadership’s decision to withhold funding from the party’s publicity directorate.
He further criticized the leadership for failing to organize ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, as well as a national convention, despite being given a 90-day mandate to do so more than a year ago.
In the memo dated October 9, 2025, titled “Pre-resignation Memo” and addressed to the National Executive Council (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT), Akeni lamented that the Interim National Working Committee had failed to deliver on its responsibilities after 445 days in office.
He accused certain individuals within the party of acting as “proxy agents” for rival parties, deliberately undermining the Labour Party’s progress before decamping to other platforms.
Akeni wrote that such individuals owed members an explanation for the leadership’s continued delay in conducting state congresses and the national convention, stressing that the party’s credibility was at stake.
