Kwara launches free breast, cervical cancer screening
On Tuesday, October 22, the Kwara State Government encouraged women to regularly undergo breast and cervical cancer screenings to help protect their health. The government launched a free screening program at the Bode Saadu Primary Health Center in Moro Local Government Area.
The event was led by the state Commissioner for Health, Amina El-Imam, who emphasized the importance of this health initiative. “I urge women of reproductive age to take full advantage of this crucial opportunity provided by our administration,” she said. She highlighted that regular screenings are vital for maintaining good health.
Mrs. El-Imam pointed out that breast and cervical cancers are leading causes of death among women worldwide. However, she noted that early detection can greatly improve treatment success and survival rates.
“Prevention is the most effective method to combat breast and cervical cancers. With early screening and detection, lives could be saved,” she explained. “This outreach is an important step towards ensuring that Kwara women remain healthy and protected.”
During the event, Arinde Olamilekan, the Director of Personnel Management for Moro Local Government, thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his dedication to improving health standards in the community through initiatives like this screening program.
Ahmed Amusa, representing the district head, also spoke, urging the people of Moro to continue supporting the government’s efforts to provide essential healthcare services.
