Kogi state gets green light for international airport

In a significant boost to the state’s economic development, the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has approved the construction of an international airport in Zariagi, Kogi State.

Governor Usman Ododo’s administration has hailed this milestone as a major step towards transforming the state into a major aviation hub.

According to Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, the approval, dated October 9, 2024, paves the way for the creation of a world-class airport that will serve 10 neighboring states. The strategic location of Zariagi, already equipped with an airstrip, was a key factor in the approval.

The airport project is expected to drive economic growth, generate employment opportunities, and showcase Kogi State’s potential globally. With cargo capacity also planned, the airport will reduce traffic on the Lokoja-Abuja road and decongest the Abuja International Airport.

Governor Ododo has assured that only the best professionals will be hired to ensure the project’s success, emphasizing the importance of trust and standards in the aviation industry. The administration plans to build on the gains of the last eight years, executing more laudable projects to consolidate Kogi State’s development.

Fanwo expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Aviation Minister for the historic approval. “This project will not only boost our economy but also create jobs and bring our state to the global scene,” he said.
