Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has officially signed the revised 2025 appropriation bill, totaling N43.29 billion, into law. The signing took place on Wednesday at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, marking a significant step in the state’s fiscal planning and development agenda.
The event was witnessed by key stakeholders, including the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Usman Muhammad-Zuru, along with other principal officers and members of the Assembly.
Governor Idris commends lawmakers for cooperation
While signing the revised budget, Governor Idris expressed deep appreciation for the harmonious relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government in the state. He praised the lawmakers for their dedication, professionalism, and people-centered approach to governance.
“I appreciate the House of Assembly for being alive to its responsibilities and working closely with the executive for the betterment of our people,” the governor stated.
Governor Idris emphasized that the strong collaboration between both arms of government had led to seamless policy implementation and development strides across Kebbi State. He also noted that since the beginning of his administration, there had been no conflict with the legislature over bills or government policies.
“Anything we bring to the House always passes through the required legislative processes after thorough scrutiny. This shows the commitment of the Assembly to doing a clean job for the state,” he added.
Lawmakers align revised budget with current realities
Earlier, Speaker Usman Muhammad-Zuru explained that the House undertook a comprehensive review of the 2025 budget to reflect current economic conditions and pressing developmental needs. The revision was necessary to ensure fiscal responsibility and strategic allocation of resources.
According to him, the House engaged in extensive deliberations and consultations before forwarding the revised budget to the governor for assent.
“The passage of the revised bill followed exhaustive deliberations to align its provisions with prevailing fiscal realities and development priorities,” he said.
School renamed in honor of Emir of Yauri
In a related development, the State House of Assembly also approved a motion to rename the newly constructed Government Girls Secondary School in Tsamiya, Tundi, located in Yauri Local Government Area.
The motion, sponsored by Hon. Hashimu Usman (Yauri – APC), called for the school to be renamed in honor of the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, in recognition of his service and contributions to the region.
As a result, the school will now be officially known as Sarki Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi Girls Secondary School, Tsamiya, Tundi.
Legislative process in line with constitutional provisions
Speaker Muhammad-Zuru reiterated that all legislative processes adhered to the constitutional framework outlined in the 1999 Constitution (as amended). He affirmed the Assembly’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with the executive to fast-track development initiatives and improve the welfare of Kebbi residents.
“The House, after due consideration, forwarded the revised 2025 appropriation bill of N43.29 billion to the governor for assent, in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution,” he noted.
