Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammed Samaila Bagudo, shortly after he observed Friday prayers in Bagudo town.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said the armed men invaded the town on Friday night with sophisticated weapons and whisked the lawmaker away to an unknown destination.
Abubakar added that the state Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, had immediately set up a joint search and rescue team comprising police officers, soldiers, and vigilantes to secure the deputy speaker’s release.
“In view of the unfortunate incident, we have formed a strong rescue team and they are already combing bushes and forests to rescue him unhurt,” he stated.
He urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that the Police were fully committed to restoring safety and rescuing the lawmaker.
“The Police are on top of the situation and remain unwavering in their commitment to protecting lives and property in Kebbi State,” Abubakar added.
