Jonathan claps back at Keyamo, Odinkalu over 2027 presidency talk

Ex-president says legal advice wasn’t asked for—and isn’t needed

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has fired back at Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo and legal expert Prof. Chidi Odinkalu for questioning his rumored 2027 presidential comeback. His message? Stay in your lane.

Both Keyamo and Odinkalu recently warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against backing Jonathan again, claiming he’s already served two terms and may face legal hurdles if he tries to return.

“Thanks, but no thanks,” says Jonathan’s camp

In a sharp response posted on Facebook, Jonathan’s brother, Azibaola Robert, dismissed the concerns and reminded everyone that Jonathan has a top-tier legal team. Robert, also a lawyer, said the unsolicited opinions weren’t welcome.

“Rule No. 1: Don’t offer legal advice where none is solicited,” Robert wrote.
“GEJ has more experienced SANs giving him solid, professional advice. He’s 100% constitutionally eligible to run if he chooses to.”

Robert also joked that if they really wanted a legal briefing, he could set up a meeting to walk them through existing court rulings—including one involving the APC, Keyamo’s party.

So, is GEJ running?

Despite the fiery response, Robert clarified that this doesn’t mean Jonathan has decided to run in 2027. But the speculation alone is stirring up tension—especially among politicians from the South, who worry that a Jonathan comeback could hurt their region’s chances of holding onto the presidency.

For now, GEJ hasn’t said yes or no. But with zoning, succession, and party politics already heating up, the road to 2027 is starting to look messy.
