Inspector General of Police arrives Benue following deadly attack by suspected herdsmen

Following the tragic incident in Yelewata community, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, where nearly 250 people were killed by suspected herdsmen, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, arrived in the state.

The Nigeria Police Force disclosed this in a brief statement on its official Facebook page on Monday, June 16.

The post stated that the IGP has “ordered for additional deployment of tactical teams” to address the security crisis.

Suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked the community near Makurdi, the state capital, and set fire to the homes, killing many unsuspecting residents.

In response to the attack, hundreds of Benue youths staged a protest in Makurdi on Sunday, June 15, to draw global attention to the recurring and deadly attacks happening in the state.
