INEC concludes CVR phase two, records 3.7 million registrations nationwide

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded the second phase of its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise with a total of 3,748,704 completed registrations across Nigeria.

The figure, contained in INEC’s Week 14 update of the exercise, includes both online pre-registrations and physical completions at designated centres. Of the total, 2,259,288 Nigerians registered online before finalising their enrolment, while 1,489,416 completed the process at registration centres nationwide. The commission described the figures as preliminary, pending further verification.

Following the conclusion of the registration phase, INEC has commenced the display of the Register of Voters for Claims and Objections, a quality assurance step aimed at improving the accuracy and credibility of the voter register ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The display period is scheduled to run from Sunday, April 20 to Sunday, April 26, 2026, across all states. During this window, registered citizens are expected to verify their details and report errors, while also raising objections to incorrect or ineligible entries such as duplicates, deceased persons, or non-citizens.

INEC urged all participants in the second phase of the CVR exercise to make use of the opportunity, while also calling on the public to support efforts to clean up the register.

The CVR exercise is being implemented in phases. The first phase ran from August 18 to December 10, 2025, while the second phase, now concluded, held from January 5 to April 17, 2026.

INEC further announced that the third phase of the CVR will begin on May 4, 2026 and run until August 17, 2026, followed by another claims and objections exercise scheduled for August 24 to 30, 2026.
