Ibadan council slams Fayose over Olubadan plot claims

The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, has strongly condemned former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, over recent controversial comments. Fayose had alleged a secret plot by the Oyo State Government to depose the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.
In a swift reaction, the CCII described the former governor’s assertions as baseless and provocative. The council warned that such reckless statements are capable of inciting unnecessary unrest within the ancient city of Ibadan.
Council warns against politicising traditional stools
The CCII President-General, Chief Ajeniyi Ajewole, expressed deep concern over what he termed “reckless interference” in Ibadan traditional affairs. He emphasized that the process of the Olubadan stool is well-established and cannot be altered by political speculation.
The council’s Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide, issued a statement urging the public to dismiss the allegations entirely. He noted that Ibadanland has a long history of respecting tradition and maintaining a peaceful order.
CCII defends Governor Makinde’s integrity
Chief Ajewole defended Governor Seyi Makinde, describing him as a “true son of Ibadanland” who respects the traditional institution. He argued that the Governor would never take any action to undermine the revered office of the Olubadan.
The council further told Fayose to “keep his mouth shut” and take his divisive politics away from Oyo State. They maintained that dragging a sacred traditional office into partisan debates is both disrespectful and unacceptable to the people.
Traditional leaders call for public peace
The CCII leadership called on political figures across Nigeria to exercise extreme caution with their public utterances. They stated that the peace and stability of Ibadan remain a priority for all indigenous stakeholders.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and resist any attempts to sow discord through unverified political rhetoric. The council reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the dignity of the Olubadan institution from external political influence.
