Gunmen abduct 24 persons from Kogi orphanage

The Kogi State government has confirmed the abduction of 24 persons from an orphanage home by unknown gunmen. The victims include 23 pupils and the wife of the facility’s proprietor, who were taken late on Sunday night.
Security agencies launched a swift rescue operation immediately after the report reached the authorities. This coordinated effort has already led to the safe rescue of 15 of the 24 abductees.
Orphanage operated illegally in remote location
The State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed that the facility was operating without proper registration. He identified the home as the Dahallukitab Group of Schools, located in a remote and bushy area.
Fanwo noted that the government and relevant security agencies had no prior knowledge of the institution’s existence. He warned that establishing such facilities in vulnerable areas without notification poses a massive security risk to children.
Rescue operations continue for remaining victims
The government commended the professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force and other agencies involved in the rescue. Security operatives are currently intensifying efforts to secure the release of the remaining nine victims.
Authorities urged all operators of schools and orphanages to comply with existing safety regulations. The state government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and ensuring the perpetrators of the attack face justice.
